Kylyra Biography

Introduction

Completely unwilling to be limited or defined, Kylyra is Dark World's resident rebel diva. Her music moved from early techno rhythms combined with classically styled melodies on First Steps to the surrealistic and haunting concept album Ishtar's Ascent. After a well deserved break, Kylyra is back in full force with VOX and has once again managed to fashion a new sound for herself. Grooving heavier than ever, Kylyra meshes her alternative dance style with industrial and gothic lashings reminiscent of Front 242 and Intermix. Infectious beats, brilliant high-end percussive work and gorgeous multi-layered vocals showcase the versatility of this diva.

Personal Reflections

Kylyra, K. Kylyra Ameringer, Kristi Ameringer, Kristine Karen Ameringer are all one and the same person - me. Why do I use various names? For the same reason I like to change my hair drastically. I enjoy the confusion it invariably causes.

I am a direct descendent of Oscar Ameringer through my father, Allan Ameringer. I flatter myself that I display the same creative flair of my great grandfather, Oscar, through multiple art forms; music, literature (fiction, non-fiction, and poetry), painting, and photography. I seem to also have inherited his tendency towards rebellion.

Do not expect the norm from me; my work can vary drastically. Some things may scare you, some may make you think, some may make you laugh. As an artist, that is all I can expect from you - some sort of reaction.

If you enjoy my free poetry rings, short stories, lyrics, and MP3s, you can support my efforts by buying my music or my book - all independently released. Connect with me on Facebook, Myspace, LastFm, iTunes, and LinkedIn.

A word for my fans. For your ease and to reflect my own state of mind, my poetry and lyrics are separated. I have never written a poem and then used it for lyrics, and vice versa. Poetry is poetry, lyrics are lyrics. While my lyrics attempt to reflect the rhythm of music, my poetry is founded on the rhythm of words. My newer poetry reflects the huge influence the beat generation poets have had on me, and when performing live I usually use a jazz accompaniment. I think you'll note the difference.

See you on the flip side.

Poetry by Kylyra

Memories of You

by K. Kylyra Ameringer

Memories of you

Came flooding back to me

The other day

I wish they hadn't

Now my soul

Is drenched with you

And I cry out

Where is the fire

By which I can dry myself?

Afternoon Tea

by K. Kylyra Ameringer

There is movement in the trees.

A flash

A flicker of fanciful colour

And wings -

The birds are out for their afternoon tea.

They bob and whirl

A softly muted kaleidoscope

Changing patterns through the garden;

They come to gossip

And watch the washerwoman

In the window as she works,

Smiling.

Threshold

by K. Kylyra Ameringer

We stand, like children

At a doorway

Shamefaced and sullen

Fear cementing our feet

Desire infecting us

Time dissolves us away

Short Stories

A Remarkably Accurate Machine

"Reggie, will you stop obsessing over that thing! Reggie! Reginald, will you look at me when I'm talking to you!"

"Hmmm?" Reginald Ignacious Parker lifted his faded and worn eyes to his wife's face. "Did you say something, dear?"

Sandra Parker rolled her eyes. "I've been talking to you for the last five minutes, Reggie. You haven't heard a word I've said, have you?"

"Oh, I'm sorry, dear," Reggie said, smiling slightly. "It's the clock, you see," indicating the small silvery-smooth shape on the table next to his favorite chair. "It's ticking down, you know. I haven't much time left."

"Damn it, Reggie, it's just a clock! Just a stupid novelty gift that your company churned out to make money! It doesn't actually work! Look, the thing is programmed with insurance actuary statistics. It has nothing to do with the individual owner!"

Demon Stories

True Blue Lou

"Lou, Lou, Lou! My man Lou!"

Lou stopped musing on his breakfast. Many citizens in the complex didn't appreciate some of the dishes served to them in the communal areas. Lou couldn't understand why; there was a large variety of food vendors to choose from so any citizen could opt to have a different cuisine every meal of the week. This morning Lou had eaten at Toastie's, a small cafe off the main pathways. Toastie's wasn't big on variety but they served great beans on toast.

Turning, Lou spotted his friend Yuri shambling towards him. Lou easily hopped off the electromagnetic runner, one of thousands crossing and intersecting through the communal areas of the complex. During peak times, one had to be careful for footpath travelers but Lou's shift was in odd rotation to the rest of the complex's schedule, which meant Level 29's open-air pathways were almost deserted.
