The druids of Ireland began to
feel restless. It was five years since Muirgen had retrieved the Tain from
Fergus mac Roich, yet the Tuatha were still unsettled. Unexplained happenings
were occurring throughout Ireland. Sidhs were becoming places of terror.
The druids decided to send Muirgen back to Fergus's gravestone to find
out what was wrong. Muirgen set out the next day alone, to learn what had
happened to make the Tuatha so restless. Sitting down at the gravestone
he began to chant:
"If this your royal rock
halted here with sages
the reasons to our restlessness
A mist began to form around Muirgen.
Fergus appeared to Muirgen, with an urgency unrenowned. He began explaining
a tale which men had distorted to such an extent that the Dagda, himself,
had become upset. To not confuse men further, Fergus used the names Joseph,
Mary, and Cain, instead of their original names Lugaidaire, Noisach Etaid,
and Feraille Fuaitach, although these names must appear here. The story
is the birth of the Savior of Man, and it begins as follows ...
