answers to ten questions

1. What do you do in the band?

Lead and backing vocals, keyboards, lyrics, rhythm, rhythm programming, melodic composition and arrangement.

2. What bands/artists do you have 3 or more of in your collection?

My own work, Descendents, The Police, Infinisynth, Sven Väth, Heart, Stygian Tars, Led Zeppelin, INXS

3. What's currently on your iPod?

Somery from Descendents, Everything Sucks from Descendents, All from Descendents, Cool To Be You from Descendents, Allroy for Prez from All, Problematic from All, Nothing's Shocking from Jane's Addiction, Ritual de lo Habitual from Jane's Addiction, Regatta de Blanc from The Police, Zenyatta Mondatta from The Police, Ghost in the Machine from The Police, Outlandos d'Amour from The Police, Invisible Sun from The Police, Synchronicity from The Police and a punk compilation called Squares Blot Out The Sun (this was October 2008.)

4. What band or artist (whom you've not seen) would you most like to see perform live?

Descendents, hand down. I've got their latest release Cool To Be You but their site says no tours are planned right now (sigh).

5. What kind of films do you enjoy?

Science fiction, splat, horror, thrillers, animations, action, and an occasional comedy are my usual fare. I've found a few rare art films I really enjoy; the Three Colours trilogy by Krzysztof Kieslowski is one of my favourites.

6. What kind of reading material do you enjoy?

I'm a huge fan of Issac Asimov, and have collected just about all his books in the Robots series and Foundation series. I enjoy some C.S. Lewis, Greg Bear, Clive Barker, and J.R.R. Tolkien. Frank Herbert's Dune series is a great read, as well as J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. I also get into some limited series independent comics. They're usually done in black and white and really hard for me to get a hold of. Some of my favourites are Slacker by Doug Slack from Slave Labour Group, Gordon Yamamoto and the King of the Geeks by Gene Yang from Humble Comics, Squee and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac by Jhonen Vasquez from Slave Labour Group, Wolff & Byrd Counselors of the Macabre by Batton Lash from Exhibit A Press, and, of course, The Tick by Ben Edlund from New England Comics Press.

7. What other activities do you enjoy?

I love academic study and am interested in just about every topic under the sun. I'd go back to university if I had the time and just take every class I ever wanted to know anything about. I'm also really active physically and have to get some movement in every day, either a work out or walking or yoga; anything really that gets me up and moving. I'm a Japanese logic puzzle fan and I'm completely addicted to The Sims (version one with with all the updates). Because of my lifestyle I do a lot of things by myself, so when I get some time to be social I really want a lot of interaction with people.

8. What's your idea of a perfect meal?

Tough question. I really enjoy Greek, Mexican, Tibetan, Italian, French, German, Chinese, Japanese .... did I forget any? Probably! Just never, ever serve me bland, unseasoned, or poorly cooked food - I will not be easy on my critique of it and probably won't even bother to finish it!

9. What's your worst habit?

What makes you think I have any? Seriously, it's probably being too hard on myself. Or being too serious. Take your pick.

10. What do you value most in people?

Honesty. It's pretty rare to find people who'll really be honest with you; a lot of people think they're being nice and lie because they think the truth will hurt your feelings. I don't agree with that; the honest truth hurts less than the eventual let down from a lie being uncovered.
