On Saturday, 3 July 2010, the residents of Kilcrohane and the surrounding Sheeps Head Peninsula were treated to a night of unique entertainment - Poets Express 2010. Three rooms hosted performers and experimental film and video simultaneously. A BBQ was on hand for some great food and a raffle was held to raise funds, with prizes ranging from a literature collection from independent poets and authors to a case of wine.

Held in the Bayview Inn, the main stage featured guest poets from the Republic, Northern Ireland, and the UK. Variety was the key to the night; from traditional Irish poetry to cutting edge syncopated sounds, the main stage offered it all and wound the evening up with dance music for everyone to enjoy.

The acoustic stage featured an afternoon writer's workshop from Manchester performance poet AndyN. Focusing on creative ideas to get writers writing, the workshop was well attended and a wellspring of information for all who attended. Musicians from London, Dublin, Cork, and locally picked up their instruments to entertain guests during the evening, with breaks for poetry from main stage guests and local poets alike.

The video room featured experimental film and video from around the world. Artists from the US, Italy, Canada, France, and the UK were shown on a large screen tv with full sound in an intimate setting.

It's hard to believe 2010 is only the second year of Poets Express, with its wide variety of performers, multi-disciplinary art forms, and effortless cross-border melding of cultures. Already drawing in tourists from as far away as the US, Poets Express is a fast-paced, entertaining festival that offers the very best in independent poetry, music, and experimental film and video in the beautiful setting of West Cork, Ireland.
