Friday night - 80+ performances continued...
Artist: Duke SpecialHome: Ireland Venue/Time: Stadsschouwburg/21.25 - 22.10 |
Hailing from Belfast, Duke Special draws from traditional Irish folk and country and western music for inspiration. Incorporating vaudeville and the pre-war songs of George Gershwin, Duke Special creates a timeless sound. The word on the streets of Groningen was his performance was as good as it was billed to be. Artist: HumanziHome: Ireland Venue/Time: Vindicat/22.15 - 23.00 |
Vindicat, a stripped down warehouse-like venue, hosted Humanzi, a four-piece rock/punk band with a high-energy aggressive sound. Combining a stylised look with strobe lighting effects, Humanzi's performance hit the audience hard; this is not music for the faint of heart! Artist: The AnswerHome: Ireland Venue/Time: Huize Maas-Main/23.45 - 00.30 |
The Answer was billed as Ireland's hope in the field of good old fashioned hard rock, and Huize Maas was the lucky venue to host them. The Answer filled the venue to capacity and had a long queue out front. This was the band's second Eurosonic appearance, and it was obvious their first appearance had left a lasting impression on their audience. With their debut release Rise they've been pegged as a guaranteed breakthrough in the music scene. Visit their web site at www.theanswer.ie. |
Artist: KrauseHome: Netherlands Venue/Time: De Kar/00.00 - 00.45 |
This solo female artist played at De Kar, an intimate club setting for her electronic sound. Relying on heavy drum and bass with a hint of German industrial as underlays, Krause added live keys and used two microphones to capture her vocal performance. The audience was wall-to-wall and loved her heavy punk-like attitude. With the most memorable lyrics at Eurosonic (every girl's worst nightmare - I lost my tampon) it was great to see just as many guys dancing around the floor as girls.
